What is Parasitic Infections?
Parasitic worm infections (also called helminth infections) are illnesses caused by various species of parasitic worms, which live and feed off the human body. These infections can occur when parasitic worms, such as roundworms, tapeworms, or flatworms, enter the body and settle in organs like the intestines, liver, or lungs. They thrive by absorbing nutrients from their host, leading to health problems.
Common symptoms of parasitic worm infections include abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, and nutrient deficiencies. The most common ways people become infected are through consuming contaminated food or water, exposure to fecal matter, or poor sanitation.
